Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd's "Twin Star Alliance" officially launches, reshaping the global shipping landscape.

The newly operational "Twin Star Alliance," formed by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, marks a new phase of adjustment in the global shipping alliance landscape. As traditional alliance structures are reconfigured, route networks, slot allocation, port calls, and freight pricing mechanisms face significant changes. Global shipping competition and cooperation will enter a deeper period of transformation.

On 2 1, the "TwinStar Alliance," jointly established by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, officially began operations. The formation of this new alliance represents a strategic move by two leading shipping companies amid shifting global shipping dynamics, signaling that the global container shipping alliance system is entering a new phase of restructuring. Previously, Maersk announced its exit from the 2M Alliance with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), while Hapag-Lloyd withdrew from THE Alliance. With the dissolution of 2M and THE, the original three-alliance structure in the global shipping market has been disrupted, leading to significant adjustments in industry competition. A new landscape is now emerging, composed primarily of the TwinStar Alliance, Ocean Alliance, and Premier Alliance. The TwinStar Alliance consists of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd. Ocean Alliance includes CMA CGM, COSCO SHIPPING, Evergreen Marine, and OOCL. The Premier Alliance is formed by ONE, partial resources previously held by Hapag-Lloyd, Yang Ming Line, and other carriers. This new alliance structure will impact slot availability on major global trade routes, port call schedules, vessel capacity deployment, and customer service networks.
